The suspect in a 10-year old Snowflake area murder case was killed in a shooting in Mexico. On Wednesday, June 29, 2005, deputies responded to 6429 Tharp Road outside of Snowflake, where Gary Wayne Hyde was found brutally murdered within his residence. Taken from the residence were the victim’s vehicle and other personal items. During the course of the investigation, sheriff’s detectives identified the suspect as Marco Antonio Perea-Gayosso. Based on the information and evidence, they obtained an arrest warrant for Perea-Gayosso, but he fled the United States and was not apprehended. In 2011, NCSO detectives received information that Perea-Gayosso was living in southern Mexico. The information was given to the United States Marshal’s Service. Deputy marshals discovered that the suspect was killed in a shooting in Oaxaca, Mexico. A death certificate was obtained by the marshals, which listed Perea-Gayosso as deceased, as well as a local newspaper article documenting the incident. Last month NCSO detectives conducted additional interviews and follow-up analysis on evidence collected during the original investigation. Based on all of the information developed in this case, along with all of the circumstances around it, Perea-Gayosso is believed to be the only suspect in the death of Gary Hyde. Sheriff KC Clark contacted Hyde’s only surviving family member, a sister, and told her that her brother’s killer had been located and the circumstances that followed. “Although the information doesn’t bring back a loved one, it is equally important to provide a small amount of closure, and demonstrates law enforcements commitment to continue to look for the truth for all the victims, both the deceased and living. The resolution of the case is possible by the work of U.S. Marshal David Gonzales and his professional staff of deputies.”
