The Snowflake Town Council met last week and discussed a proposal for a land trade of two properties within the community.
“The Town of Snowflake’s parcel is part of a right of way dedication that will be abandoned in like kind trade with a similar size property, located just to the south. The trade is between the Town of Snowflake and Decker Ranches and Development, LLLP,” said a letter dated Aug. 11 from David B. Mills, CEO of SEI Real Estate Professionals, to Snowflake Town Manager Brian Richards.
“This stems from 1998,” said developer Kirk Brimhall, noting that two things need to be cleared up. “I worked with Mr. (David) Decker (Decker Ranches and Development) and Tetra Tech and various entities to pick the best route, and to make sure the road extension could be tied on for future roads and fit with our plans, our properties,” said Brimhall. He also stated that Decker would not stand in the way of progress, noting the route takes the entire thing out of the floodplain.
Richards explained to the council that these two parcels are of equal value, stating, “For the town I think it’s better we do this exchange for future development along that corridor.” Mayor Tom Poscharsky agreed.
Vice Mayor Kerry Ballard said he had looked at the property with Brimhall, who explained what they want to accomplish. He then moved to hold the first reading of Ordinance 15-19, property exchange between Decker Ranches and Development and town. The motion passed.
The town approved a similar change in principal in 1998, when they were doing the new Seventh Street road, explained Mayor Poscharsky. “This is our own little way of taking care of what we should have taken care of 17 years ago,” he said.
