Concerns by a Snowflake citizen regarding the saving of seats along the Pioneer Days parade route was brought before the town council Aug. 11.

“I think it’s really sad, in such a caring, giving community that we stake a claim like that,” said Kaitlin Holfeltz during the call to the public. She related that she has lived in that area for 10 years and her children can’t stand on the corner 50’ from their home to watch the parade.

“This year the children wanted to sit on the parade route so they marked tape on the sidewalk and wrote names on it, but when they went out an hour before the parade the tape had been ripped up and others had taken that place,” she explained.

Seats were being saved as early as Wednesday prior to the Saturday parade.

Holfeltz requested that the town put signs reading “No saving spots” on the parade route until the day of the parade and asked this be an agenda item. She also offered to gather signatures on a petition if it was needed.

Mayor Tom Poscharsky asked Town Manager Brian Richards to check into it, noting that the event is controlled by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, not the town, even though the town does participate.

Councilman Stuart Hensley asked if they could discuss this when it’s call to the public and the mayor said they could among council members, so he suggested the parade route be extended. Mayor Poscharsky asked Richards to look into this and report back on the matter.
