The Snowflake Town Council appointed Byron Lewis to fill a vacant seat on the council last week. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Jason Whiting, the sole candidate for mayor, and the appointment of Councilman Tom Poscharsky as mayor.

The town advertised the position, asking interested individuals to submit a letter of interest and answer five questions addressing their qualifications.

Mayor Poscharsky explained that the law doesn’t direct the council on any criteria for the selection of a new council member, but as a whole the members felt they should do whatever they thought would be best for the council and the town.

Poscharsky encouraged everyone, not just those who sought the council seat, to participate on boards and other councils serving the town.

Mayor Poscharsky, Vice Mayor Kerry Ballard, and Councilmen Stuart Hensley, Cory Johnson and Terril Kay voted in favor of Lewis’ appointment. Councilman Lynn Johnson abstained from the vote.
