By Naomi Hatch Though Arizona no longer has building renewal funding, $2 million has been allocated to cover needs for school facilities, Snowflake Unified School District Business Manager Mark Ollerton advised the district governing board last week. Ollerton noted that the district applied for grants from the School Facilities Board to replace doors and hardware for Snowflake Intermediate School and Taylor Elementary School, and has been awarded $14,010 for SIS and $13,987 for TES pending board approval. No in-kind or matching funds are required. The board unanimously approved accepting the building renewal grant funding for the two schools. In other business, Highland Primary School Principal Roy Owens reported that on Dec. 18, a Walmart representative presented the school with 22 gift cards valued at $50 each to be given to teachers for classroom supplies. The firm also donated many lunch boxes to the school. Owens offered his thanks to Walmart for its support of his school and the district.
