The Snowflake/Taylor Recreation and Parks Department conducted registration and tryouts for the 2015 basketball season on Monday and Tuesday. Youth who were unable to try out on those days will have one last chance on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Snowflake Junior High School Gym. Third and fourth grade boys and girls will try out from 7 to 8 p.m., and fifth and sixth grade boys and girls from 8 to 9 p.m. Youth who can’t be at those tryouts must be signed up by 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, at Snowflake Town Hall. The registration waiver forms and $20 fee will be collected at the tryouts. Please bring correct change. The tryouts will be used to rank youth according to their ability for assignment on teams. All youth, including the coach’s son/daughter, need to try out for an accurate count to determine the number of teams needed. Youth who sign up, but who do not try out will be assigned (in order) to teams instead of being drafted by coaches. There will be no exceptions. The number of youth who will be able to play depends on the number of coaches that volunteer. Organizers hope to recruit enough coaches so that everyone will have a chance to play. If you would like to coach, call Don Camacho at 536-7103, ext 225. All coaches are asked to come to the tryouts to help rank youth and to get an idea of the players that they would like to draft. These leagues play games on Saturdays, starting Jan. 10. Youth who go beyond the age limit of each league have to play in the older division. Youth 13 years old will play in the Junior High Division, and registration will start after the Snowflake Junior High School teams have been selected. The seventh through ninth grade league will start after the SJHS teams are formed. Those games will be played between 6 and 9 p.m. during the week.
