Arizona Public Service Co. and Phoenix Suns Charities awarded Snowflake Junior High School a $2,270 grant for its STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Robotics program.
Carlynn Patton teaches at Highland Primary School, and two times a week she goes to SJHS for the STEM program.
She made a presentation at the Nov. 13 meeting of the Snowflake Unified School District Governing Board on what her class has accomplished. They visited the Silver Creek Fish Hatchery, checked the pH water in the Silver Creek, built items such as a moon robot and a roller coaster, and engineered a Ferris wheel made of pasta.
The students learned to use engineering methods, and to evaluate problems and find solutions.
The grant will allow the school to expand the program.
