An error on the ballot for the Town of Snowflake has created the need to cancel the town’s upcoming primary election slated for Aug. 26, moving it instead to Nov. 4. According to Navajo County Elections Director Johnathan Roes, an error was made on the ballot listing three vacancies for the town council when there are only two. That error will move the town election to the same date as the general election and, if needed, the town’s general election will take place on March 17. In order to correct the error on the ballot and ensure an accurate tabulation of the results for the offices of two council members, a resolution prepared by the town in agreement and cooperation with the county elections department was presented to the council during a special meeting held Monday morning. They met in a brief executive session, with Vice Mayor Jason Whiting and Councilwoman Bev Kay not attending due to conflicts of interest. Mayor Kelly Willis, and Councilmen Kerry Ballard, Stuart Hensley and Tom Poscharsky approved the resolution to move the primary election date. Candidates vying for the two council seats are Terril Kay, Byron Lewis, Cory Johnson and Daniel Prestwich. Vice Mayor Jason Whiting is running unopposed for mayor.
