Holbrook residents came together on July 15, filling sandbags to protect their community after approximately 3 inches of rain fell during the late afternoon and evening, triggering widespread flooding that damaged homes and forced businesses to close. According to the Western Regional Climate Center, which has maintained weather records for Holbrook since 1893, the community's previous wettest day on record was Feb. 23, 1987, when 2.50 inches of precipitation fell. The July 15 storm surpassed that mark, making it the heaviest single-day rainfall recorded in Holbrook's documented history.
