By L. Parsons In a special meeting of the Winslow Unified School District Governing Board the board was presented with the annual financial report (AFR) by District Business Manager Shirley Lomeli. Lomeli said, “This is the report for last school year, 2020-21. When you are looking at this report, pay close attention to the first page. One of the things that I would like to point out, is that last year (2019-20), we had two accounts that were in the negative, one was our food service account and one was our building renewal account. Food service for the year reported here (2020-21) actually ended in a positive and I am happy to report that.” Winslow Unified School District stayed well within its spending limits, according to Lomeli. She said, “For the 2020-2021 school year, the Maintenance & Operation budget was $13.1 million and $11.8 million of the budget was expended.” She noted that approximately $5.3 million was spent in approved federal and state projects. All revenues, expenditures, and fund balances presented on the AFR agree with the district’s final accounting records for the year ended June 30, 2021. The AFR can be located on the school’s website under the “Department and Services” tab.” Lomeli referenced grants being used currently by the district. She said, “Right now, we have about $10 million in grants that started last year and will continue through next year. We have already begun a few projects with those grants including remodeling the restrooms at all of our school sites.” Lomeli said the district as a whole is in strong financial position and she is hoping to see an even larger student count for the next school year.
