Matt Weber, the Superintendent of the Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology (NAVIT) presented his annual report to the Winslow School District Governing Board last week. Weber gave an update on the funding streams and the progress being made by the program.

NAVIT offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take instruction in cosmetology, welding, certified nursing assistance, industrial maintenance, medical assistance and mechatronics in partnership with area community colleges. When Winslow joined the NAVIT district in 2001, the program reimbursed the district in the amount of $642,496. Currently, that number is $298,265. Weber said, “For every student that takes a NAVIT class, we reimburse the district with $900. Every student that takes a class, they generate that additional funding stream for your current tech-ed (technical education) programs.

“For rural Arizona, NAVIT offers an appropriate and effective career and technical education (CTE) delivery system for high school students through providing funding to assist schools with the satellite CTE programs and offering Central CTE programs.” In addition to the vocational options, students are also offered drafting, agriculture, business, law, sports medicine and digital printing through the funding streams provided by the NAVIT program.
