The Holbrook City Council convened for a regular meeting last Wednesday, during which Mayor Kathleen Smith made several proclamations, including County Fair Week, September as National Preparedness Month, and National 9/11 Patriot Day as a day of remembrance.

After some discussion, the council tabled the motion to approve the item labeled as Fiduciary Responsibility and Credit Card Charges for Municipal/Payments. According to the unofficial meeting minutes, the item will be addressed at the next meeting. The council also reviewed the General Plan Work Session Schedule and Mayor Smith requested council members to email a list of their respective group members to City Manager Sharon Jakubowski Wolz. Each of the council members selected an area of need in the city that they would seek to improve, and recruit individuals to assist with that endeavor.

At a meeting last month, the decision was made that Mayor Smith and Jakubowski Wolz will take charge over land use/environmental planning, economic development and circulation; Vice Mayor Mike Nilsson, cultural and historical resources, and public facilities and services; Councilmember Robert Black, water resources and impact fee schedule; Councilmember Karina Pack, open spaces and natural resources; Councilmember Arcenia Pacheco, community design and housing; Councilmember Teri Tafoya, growth areas and cost of development; and Councilmember Tim Dixon, safety.

During the summary of current events, Vice Mayor Nilsson stated that on Oct. 3rd the Holbrook Senior Center will be hosting a health fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and a Bunco event at 6 p.m. on Oct. 26. The cost to enter is $20, with the proceeds going to the Christmas food boxes, due to inflation the cost has increased by 5%.

City Manager Jakubowski Wolz mentioned Arizona Job Connection, a web-based job-matching and labor market information system residents and employers can utilize. According to the unofficial meeting minutes, Arizona Job Connection is completely free for use.
