Change will be coming to the Winslow School District with the upcoming retirement of Superintendent Lance Heister and as it prepares to welcome three new board members in January.
Heister thanked outgoing board members Beth Carlson and Roberta Hadnot for their service to the district and the community during the Dec. 7 board meeting. In January, Joseph Hartnett, Sharon Greenwood and Allen Leonard will begin their terms on the board.
Heister will be wrapping up 30 years of service as a school superintendent in April. He has served Winslow for eight years, the Heber-Overgaard School District for 18 years and the Peoria School District for four years. According to Heister, no decision has been made on a replacement and none is likely to be made until after the new board convenes. One option facing the board would be to retain Heister until the end of the school year through ESI and then begin the process of determining who will run the district for the new school year.
In that same meeting, the board authorized the acceptance of $1,900 donated to the district’s libraries by the Winslow Woman’s Club. Also authorized was the acceptance of $99.58 to Bonnie Brennan School and $88.49 to Jefferson Elementary School from SW Karma for Sonic.
The board also approved travel for two employees and 28 students to Gallup, N.M., Dec. 1-3 for a girls’ basketball tournament.
