By L. Parsons The City of Winslow was recently awarded a $2,500 award from their accounting software vendor, Caselle for their Commitment to Community grant program. The city will be donating that money to the Winslow Rotary Club who has proven essential to the community with their monthly food distribution. The donation was announced during the Winslow City Council meeting last week. Rotary President Kevin Coolidge stated, “We are grateful to the City of Winslow for this generous donation. Our crew for the mobile pantry has worked very hard to get where we are. We have a great community support and have a minimum of 40 people show up to help every time. Without that, we would not be able to do what we do.” Coolidge noted that they have been so successful in facilitating the mobile pantry that St. Mary’s Food Bank will be using the club as an example and training for other sites that will be doing the mobile pantry. “I can’t be more proud of my club or my community,” he said, adding that the funds will be added to the club’s scholarship program. The mobile food bank is provided once a month in Winslow as a partnership between the Rotary Club and St. Mary’s Food Bank. Details on the event can be found on the club’s social media pages. In a follow-up conversation, volunteer Stephanie Lugo said, “We really would like to make sure that the entire community knows that this program is for them. No matter your income level or level of need, please, come get a box of food for your family each month.” The distribution is held at the United Methodist Church, located at 101 E. Hillview Street and features contactless pickup. Volunteers are always welcomed.
