Winslow High School student Lindsey Cox was recognized by the Winslow City Council on Tuesday after winning first place in the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for Arizona’s Second Congressional District, an honor that will send her artwork to the U.S. Capitol for a yearlong display.
Mayor Roberta Cano read a letter of recognition congratulating Cox on behalf of the city, saying her accomplishment reflects “exceptional creativity, artistic talent and dedication” and brings honor to her family, Winslow High School and the Winslow community.
Cox’s winning piece was identified during the meeting as “Albert Camus and His Cat.” As the district winner, Cox will travel to Washington, D.C., for an awards banquet and her artwork will be displayed in the Capitol as part of the national student art program.
After accepting the recognition, Cox also used the moment to promote a fundraiser for her trip. She told the council she is selling magnets featuring her winning artwork to raise spending money for Washington, D.C. She joked that buyers could also get “a really grainy picture” of her, adding that anyone interested could contact her and buy one to support her trip to D.C.
