The college admissions process can be daunting for seniors making plans for their future. The goal of the Winslow High School College Application Campaign is that all WHS seniors complete at least one secondary education application. The steps taken to accomplish this goal will assist in building a college-going culture that benefits students, their families, and the community. On Monday, Nov. 17, WHS will set aside time in the morning with computer and Internet access for all seniors to complete applications. The goal is that 100 percent of all graduating seniors at WHS will fill out one application. Last year in mid-November, 74 percent of the seniors at WHS had applied to at least one college or university during the campaign. By early December, 63 percent of those seniors had already been admitted to at least one college or university, with 54 percent of these being admitted to Northern Arizona University. At that time WHS had the highest percentage of students admitted to NAU in all of Navajo County. Volunteers are needed to make this event happen, and can include parents, high school staff, local business people, representatives from community-based organizations, and retired teachers and counselors.
