The City of Winslow has received an $86,000 Brownfields grant from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to remove asbestos and lead based paint from the former LZ Budget Motel, located at 1102 E. Second St. in the city’s redevelopment district. The motel has been abandoned for years and sits on approximately one acre of land. It has been a frequent target of vandalism.

City Manager Stephen Pauken announced the grant Monday. The grant will make possible the first step in restoring the property to useful condition. It has been the source of several fires and other undesirable activities.

The city will work with ADEQ in restoring the property to become a useful part of the redevelopment district.
