The Winslow City Council met in a special session on Tuesday to hear reports and discuss city-owned property, including buildings and land. Ahmed Abdullah prepared and narrated the presentation, which noted that the city owns 113 buildings and structures, and 120 parcels of property.

The buildings were appraised by Navajo County at $4,039,537 and the land at $2,274,768. The buildings have been appraised by the city’s insurance company at $25,817,000. The insurance premium is $25,935 annually.

City-owned buildings currently are used as offices, the visitors center, meeting areas, the wastewater treatment plant and shops. City land is used as parks, for other recreation, the airport and the landfill.

There was discussion of future use of the properties, which included possible sales, exchanges, remodeling, demolition or continuing the current uses. Several suggestions were made and discussed, including one that no decision is acted upon without considerable consideration. No action was taken, although seeking to lease one city property, the old Chamber of Commerce building, formerly the Two Stars Cafe, was agreed upon in the following regular council meeting.
