The Winslow City Council heard a number of important and informative reports during its lengthy meeting on Tuesday. The reports were by Scott Lancaster on changes at the city parks and cemetery, by Alan Rosenbaum on wells and the wastewater treatment plant, by engineer Mark Woodson on the many projects going on in Renaissance projects and other improvements, and George Cullum and Associates on the Standin’ on the Corner Foundation’s plans to build a stage and pavilion and other facilities in back of the Hubbell Building.
Lancaster said that the multi-purpose field is getting a new walkway and parking area; and the concessions buildings and restrooms at the Little League and Vargas Fields are under construction, and are expected to be finished by the middle of April. He noted that the projects are being constructed with the proceeds from the special one percent sales tax, and that there will be other projects paid from this fund.
Rosenbaum reported that a well has developed problems, but that a study has shown that the city could install a new well on the other side of the well field which would produce better water. The plan is to abandon the problem well and eventually drill the new one. He also reported on changes underway at the wastewater treatment plant.
Woodson provided a detailed report on the Renaissance projects, and other street and sidewalk projects. He said that McCauley Construction Company is working on the Renaissance 3 project on the west side of Winslow. This project will result in replacement of asphalt, building of sidewalks and gutters, and other improvements. It is now in process, and is funded through grants and turn-back money.
The Renaissance 4 project is on the east end of Winslow, and there was a meeting last week with Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) officials on this project, which will be federally funded at least in part.
The Renaissance 5 project is underway, but most of the work will not be done until later. It is on Second and Third streets, and is expected to be finished by the summer of 2012.
He also reported that the dredge basins will go out for bid in the next several weeks.
Other projects reported by Woodson were the signs for gateways to Winslow, the traffic signals on Williamson Avenue, and Second and Third streets, the transportation student with ADOT, neighborhood walkways in several areas of town and the flood mapping revisions with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
