The Winslow City Council found Tuesday evening that the call to the public portion of its agenda has become quite active. This has been a trend in recent months and continued to be at this meeting.

Steven Slaton spoke at length about what he saw as excessive salaries paid to some city employees, including the city manager, city attorney and police chief. He suggested that the mayor become a full-time position at a suggested salary of $50,000 a year and replace the city manager.

Tom McCauley spoke regarding giving a sum to the Chamber of Commerce to get Winslow businesses to actively work to bring business to Winslow. He also spoke concerning the county redistricting for supervisors, and spoke again during debate on the medical marijuana zoning issue.

Carlton Timms of Community Bridges spoke about a program planned the following evening with a number of speakers on drug and alcohol abuse problems. He said that similar events are planned to be held in other communities in the county.

There were at least three speakers and probably more during the council’s debate on the medical marijuana zoning issue.
