The Winslow City Council approved a resolution Tuesday evening authorizing a grant agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration for rehabilitation of a runway at the Winslow-Lindbergh Regional Airport.
This grant will be for $2.7 million, enough to pave two-thirds of the runway.
Jerry Sullivan of the U.S. Forest Service spoke on this item, noting that the improvements are necessary and after they are completed, the airport should be in good shape for the planes used to fight forest fires.
City Manager Stephen Pauken reported on recent city activities, and announced that a new finance director has been hired and will begin work on Aug. 3. The new finance director will be Elias Jouen, who was the business director for the Bisbee Public Schools and had an excellent record there.
Pauken also reported on a generous anonymous donation for several important projects.
The animal control officer gave a report on activity at the animal care facility, noting that no animals had been put down during the month.
