Last week, the Winslow branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) hosted a forum to introduce the town to it’s candidates.
Vice President of the Chapter Dennis Randals served as the moderator for the event, which consisted of a brief introduction of candidates and a series of questions posed by Randals. Approximately 50 Winslow voters attended the forum held at the Faith Temple on North Pope Avenue.
Mayoral candidates Tom McCauley and Harold Soehner addressed the audience alongside council candidates Samantha Crisp and Rickey Jackson. Council hopefuls Michelle Pennington, J.D. Barker, and Robin Boyd did not attend. Sharon Oliva was previously on the ballot for council but withdrew her name from selection due to her relocating.
Randals asked each candidate about economic growth in Winslow, unemployment, diversity and race relations as they pertain to Winslow and its citizens.
Ballots have already been mailed to registered voters in Winslow to be returned by May 15. On the ballot, three seats on the city council, and the position of mayor.
