By L. Parsons In response to need for social distancing, the Winslow Theater and the City of Winslow Recreation Department came together to offer a drive-in movie in Winslow last Friday night. The 120 tickets for the showing of “Jurassic World” sold in seven minutes, due to the limited number of spaces available at the multipurpose complex on Maple Street. The movie was projected onto a screen built by the Public Works department on the north side of the softball field and sound was broadcast through an FM transmitter. Families were able to tune the movie in on their in-vehicle radios. Concessions were available for purchase from the Winslow Theater, which temporarily moved their operations to the field for the movie. Tickets were purchased at the theater earlier in the week and were $10 per car. City of Winslow Recreation Department director Sandra Knight said, “We may look in to doing this again in September. With COVID, we haven’t been able to offer our summer programs in the same way we had in the past so this is just a little something we wanted to offer.” Holbrook is also looking to a similar setup in that community, but details on that endeavor were not finalized as of press time.
