Snowflake Welcome Sign

SNOWFLAKE — The Silver Creek Performing Arts Association (SPCAA) is seeking volunteers for their board and invites those interested to attend the luncheon at 12 noon on Thursday Aug. 9, at the Snowflake Social Hall. The SPCAA was founded when a group of citizens spearheaded by JoAnn Washburn, gathered musicians willing to share their talents for the benefit of the communities and thus the Silver Creek Symphony Guild was born in 1979. The orchestra was the backbone of the Guild but they started bringing in cultural events. Down the road the Silver Creek Symphony became the White Mountain Symphony based in Show Low and the SPCAA, based in Snowflake, provides cultural events. SCPAA has developed into an area-wide cultural opportunity as they offer a wide range of programs for the enjoyment of young and old alike. Parents, singles, couples, locals and out of towners flock to the events, buying season tickets or individual tickets according to their schedules. A non-profit organization, the SPCAA is financially backed by businesses and patrons plus the ticket sales. All monies go into acquiring the many event personnel and the expenses accrued. All members of the Governing Board Guild are volunteers who share their time and expertise in helping to keep the cultural events coming to the area. Kristine Ballard is the newest president of the Guild, succeeding Sharla Flake. Present Guild members include Kristine Ballard, Chris Lyman, Sharla Flake, Dana Clonts, Misty Brimhall, Jeff Millett, Brad Solomon, Jean Timiney, Diana Reed, Marguriete Smith, Beverly Kay, Melanie Tenney, Nichole Peterson, Pari Flake, Pat Hancock, Michelle Solomon, and Jennifer and Brandon Flake. Upcoming events and dates listed on SCPAA’s 2018-2019 season include Marvin A. Goldstein, Sept. 11; BYU Ballroom Dancers, Oct. 16; Canyon Creek’s “Into the Woods,” Nov. 15-16; Bar D Wranglers, Jan. 23; Fire Flies Trio, March 28; and Anthony, the Magic, April 23.
