Next Monday, we will pause as a nation to honor the countless veterans who have served our country with unwavering dedication and integrity. This day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have donned the uniform, often putting their own lives on hold for the greater good.
I don’t know that we can fully grasp the weight of these sacrifices. Each service member faces separation from their families, first for training, and many face much longer absences. Those deployed to combat zones put their lives on the line every single day, facing unimaginable challenges and dangers. Tragically, too many of them make the ultimate sacrifice, while countless others return home bearing physical injuries that may heal but leave scars. The invisible wounds—such as post-traumatic stress and other forms of battle stress—often linger long after their service ends.
As we approach this day of remembrance, I encourage you to reflect on the veterans you know—family members, friends, and neighbors—and acknowledge their service. Whether through a simple thank-you, sharing a memory, or offering support, let’s ensure they feel our appreciation. For those currently serving, let’s extend that gratitude as well, recognizing their ongoing commitment to our safety and freedom.
On Monday, please remember those you know who have served, as well as those who continue to serve. Take a moment to express your gratitude—it’s the least we can do.
