At 4:49 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, Holbrook police officers responded to a report of two children that had struck a moving vehicle while riding an electric scooter at the intersection of West Buffalo Street and 9th Avenue. According to a witness, Shanya Cruz, 18, was driving a 2020 Honda Civic in what appeared to be below the speed limit east on West Buffalo Street, when two boys, ages 14 and 12, riding an electric scooter north on 9th Avenue crossed into the intersection and struck Cruz’s vehicle, sending the scooter under the automobile and the boys over the top onto the pavement. Both boys were transported to Little Colorado Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Cruz, who was very distraught was treated at the scene and the vehicle had to be towed.
