At approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, a Navajo County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on US 160 near Milepost 375, located west of Kayenta for a speed violation. During the traffic stop, the deputy observed indicators of criminal activity. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 13 large plastic bags containing a white crystal-like substance. The substance was field tested and showed being positive for methamphetamine. The total weight of the dangerous drug was 22.8 pounds, which has a street value of approximately $612,864. Two of the four occupants were arrested including Jose Juan Valenzuela, 35, and Leysi Martinez Victoriano, 24, who were each charged with transportation of dangerous drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs for sale and possession dangerous drugs for use. “This was outstanding police work from our Deputy furthering his traffic stop and looking for illegal drugs. Drugs are being trafficked across our county and being introduced into our communities. Traffic stops like this is how we remove drugs from the streets. The Sheriff’s Office is committed to working drug interdiction across all our roadways in the county,” stated Sheriff David Clouse.
