This week marks the official start of the holiday season in our communities, beginning with Winslow’s annual tree lighting and Christmas Parade this Saturday. Holbrook will follow close behind, with its annual tree lighting on Dec. 5 and the Festival of Trees and Parade of Lights the second weekend of December. If you’re on the fence about joining in, let me help nudge you toward “yes.” The Winslow Christmas Parade is always a highlight of the year and a testament to the dedication of chamber of commerce staff Bob Hall and Angela Moser. The streets come alive with vendors, families, and friends gathering to celebrate, and – if tradition holds – this year’s parade entries will be as impressive and entertaining as ever as the theme is Christmas Fiesta, celebrating the community’s Hispanic heritage. Holbrook’s community tree lighting promises a crisp night, hot chocolate and some of the best company you could ask for. The Festival of Trees and Parade of Lights have long held a special place in my heart. Each year, thanks to the tireless efforts of Chamber Director Cindy Tafoya and many others, the parade sets the tone for the season for the community. Afterwards, it’s just a short drive to the Festival of Trees, which is a truly magical holiday display. I hope you take the time to embrace the season and enjoy the celebrations in your community. With so much happening in the world, these gatherings offer a simple reminder that we live in a place where kindness and connection are close at hand. I look forward to seeing you there.
