Taylor Town Hall

Taylor Town Manager Gus Lundberg and Zoning Administrator Allen Davis presented amendments to the Town Code, Title 18 Zoning, to the council Oct. 6 with the aim of streamlining the code.

The council also considered and held the first reading of Resolution R2016-08, Town Code, Title 18 Zoning. Lundberg explained that when an ordinance is adopted, it must be posted and advertised, but if the resolution was passed the town could publish the resolution rather than the 140 pages referenced. Those pages are available for citizen review online at www.tayloraz.org.

“My only concern is that I don’t want it to be more restrictive as to what people can do on their property,” said Councilman Lynn DeWitt. “I talked to Gus (Lundberg) and he assured me that is not the case, it is just clarification.”

Davis explained that three years ago a committee comprised of Councilmen Jason Brubaker and Carl Cosper, and Vice Mayor Shawn Palmer was formed to go through and redo the zoning ordinance.

“During those meetings in the committee I got a grasp for what the goal was in this task,” said Davis, adding that the committee then gave this to him to amend. He went on to explain that there was a deadline to have the General Plan approved by a vote of the citizens, so he worked more on the general plan.

Davis explained that there were many inconsistencies in the zoning ordinance and it was hard to understand. “I made accessory buildings consistent with all the zones… and brought a lot of stuff into compliance,” he said.

He made animal regulations for farm animals consistent, basing what is allowed on lot size. He further noted that he made provisions for FFA and 4H animals for an approved project.

The industrial zone was separated into heavy industrial and light industrial, creating two different zones.
