The Taylor Town Council agreed last week to make an offer on a piece of property located near the museum.

“I see no need to go into executive session, everything has to be brought out in the open when we come back,” said Mayor Fay Hatch.

“The particular property I’ve been made aware of is a one-acre lot west of the Taylor Museum on Center Street,” explained Town Manager Gus Lundberg, noting that the property is up for sale. “I think it would be in the town’s best interest to consider purchasing it.”

Vice Mayor Shawn Palmer said he was in favor of purchasing the property, which has been used for parking on the 4th of July, noting that some day it might be home to some type of town yard or office building.

“I’d like to look into the value,” said Councilman Carl Cosper.

“I’m hoping I can get a dollar amount you’d be willing to make as an offer, and I could approach a real estate professional and find if that’s a fair price,” said Lundberg.

Palmer moved to approve the purchase of the property for $40,000, and the motion passed unanimously.

Lundberg will return to the council when it is determined if the offer was accepted, and at that time they will consider an ordinance to make the purchase final.

In other business, while attending the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Convention, Lundberg heard a presentation on a utility customer service line warranty program.

“This is an opportunity for our water and sewer customers,” said Lundberg, explaining that homeowners are responsible for repairs of the water line from the connection on the homeowner side, and from the sewer main on the homeowner side.

For approximately $5 for water and $5 for sewer, homeowners could purchase insurance that would cover the sewer and water line repairs on the homeowner side. Lundberg said they offer a third policy, which would cover inside the home. The company would partner with local contractors to do the work. The company is asking that the town endorse it. There was discussion on this item.

A motion to move this item to another meeting passed unanimously. Lundberg will then provide more information on the proposal to the council.
