Navajo County

At the Navajo County Board of Supervisors meeting on April 10, Sheriff KC Clark along with Dispatch Communications Supervisor Caitlin Montoya asked that the week of April 8 – 14 be proclaimed National Telecommunicator’s Week as a way to honor the dispatchers that provide an invaluable service to the area.

Clark noted that the dispatchers don’t get enough recognition for what they do. From covering shifts around the clock to calming a panicked mother when her child is hurt, the dispatchers are often the first voice in an emergency. “They hear a lot of ugly stuff and the stress is incredible,” Clark shared.

The board agreed and supported the proclamation.

The board also approved a proclamation naming April as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month after a brief presentation by Buena Vista Children’s Services Recruitment Specialist for Gila, Navajo and Apache Counties CJ Wischmann, who encouraged everyone to recognize and report child abuse. April was also proclaimed Fair Housing Month.
