The Navajo County Board of Supervisors held a special meeting Wednesday, Dec. 17, during which they approved to enter into a Dark Fiber Indefeasible Right of Use (IRU) Agreement with Frontier Communications of America, Inc. On May 13 of this year, the board approved the pricing structure and associated IRU agreement template for leasing of the Navajo County Middle Mile broadband fiber. Utilizing those documents, staff and eX2 Technology, LLC., negotiated the Dark Fiber IRU agreement with Frontier Communications of America, Inc. This IRU agreement sets forth a 20-year indefeasible right to use four fibers on the county’s middle mile network for the entire 106-miles of system routes. Approval of this IRU is a major step forward in the development and commercialization of the County’s Middle Mile fiber project and will improve and enhance broadband availability, reliability and capacity throughout our County, according to the agenda.

The board also approved an amendment of the special use of authorization with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service for Tall Timbers Park to extend the expiration date of the permit by three months to facilitate the processing of the permit renewal. The new expiration date shall be March 31, 2026.
