The Taylor Town Council canvassed votes of the March 14 special election last week. The election results ensured the town will receive compensation from Arizona Public Service Co. for infrastructure for construction within public rights-of-way, with 86 percent of the voters approving the agreement.
There were 428 votes cast out of 2,179 registered voters, mostly by mail.
“Navajo County canvassed the vote, but we do need to acknowledge it,” Town Manager Gus Lundberg advised the council April 6.
Lundberg said that they will finalize the 25-year agreement with APS.
The council unanimously approved Resolution R2017-05, canvassing the votes of the special election.
In other business, the council unanimously approved tabling an intergovernmental agreement with Navajo County for an Old Shumway Road partnership.
Also unanimously approved was Resolution $2017-06, the Arizona Department of Transportation airport runway asphalt maintenance grant agreement. Lundberg explained that because the town does minor maintenance on the runway, it qualifies for the state aviation program that requires ADOT to inspect the runway each year. They have a method of measuring effectiveness and condition of the runway. This year Taylor qualifies for a chip seal of the runway. ADOT will provide all of the engineering and the town will pay 10 percent of the construction costs, which will be approximately $26,000.
“We just need to execute this agreement to benefit from that,” said Lundberg, “and chip in our share.”
