Roger Allen Brannon, 78, of Taylor peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Roger and his late wife Loretta will be laid to rest together in the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor in a private family service. An open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at Roger’s home, located at 233 Pinedale Road in Taylor.
He was born on March 22, 1936, in Mineral City, Ohio, to the late Roma and Ocie (Ickes) Brannon.
Roger grew up on the family farm in Mineral City, where as a child he enjoyed riding horses, “cowboying,” and hunting and fishing.
It was there in Mineral City he met the love of his life, Loretta Marie Sears, and on April 26, 1958, they were married. They enjoyed 48 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2006.
Following their marriage they made their home in Eastern Ohio and moved a few times while he worked, first with the mines and then with United States Steel in Canton, Ohio, before his retirement. In 1948 the family moved to Show Low, where he began working for Silver Creek Golf Course as a greens man, who despised nothing more than rocks in his sand.
Survivors include his children, Rodney (Donna) of White Mountain Lake, Rich (Shelly) of White Mountain Lake, Mike (Shanna) of Clay Springs and Roma (Trina) of Linden; his son-in-law, John Scott of Carrollton, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; four brothers; and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; a daughter, Jean Scott; and three siblings.
A tremendous amount of love, appreciation and gratitude is given to Roger’s grandson, Joe Scott, for being with his grandfather and the care that he provided in the final years of his life.
Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low was in charge of the arrangements.
