Robert Cole McIntyre, 91, of Vernon passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015, in Vernon. Private services are planned.

He was born to the late Charles Daub and Lille (Cole) McIntyre in Mineral Springs, N.C., on June 7, 1923.

Robert was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps with the 718th Bombardment Squadron (H) in the PO Valley, Air Combat Balkans, Air Offensive Europe, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Normandy, Northern France, Southern France, North Apennines, Rhineland, and Central Europe Battles and Campaigns. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 7, 1945, in Fort Bragg, N.C.

In 1948, Robert met the love of his life, Jane Kelsy, and together they had three beautiful children, Phil, Julie and Dan.

Robert and Jane owned and operated the Creek Ridge Cabins, at the time between Pinetop and Lakeside, for nearly 20 years before pursuing other adventures.

He was a charter member of the White Mountain Sheriff’s Posse and served on the board of directors for Navapache Electric for many years.

Robert was an amazing carpenter, having constructed homes all over the White Mountains, including homes in the White Mountain Country Club, Pinetop Country Club, Show Low Country Club and everywhere in between. He even built many of the homes in the Hawley Lake area during the wintertime, where they would stay in tents for many months at a time.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. Being in nature was always something Robert looked forward to doing, and especially being able to spend his time with his beautiful family in the mountains he called home was truly one of his greatest joys.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be deeply missed by his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Jane McIntyre; their children, Phil (Dr. Marilyn Hart) McIntyre, Julie Shaw and Dan (Dr. Nancy Goodman) McIntyre; six grandchildren: Kelsey, Lucas (Brooke), Molly (Aaron), Hannah (Chris), Amye and Kayla; and two great-grandchildren, Carlie and Reece.

Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low was in charge of the arrangements.
