Holbrook’s volleyball team finds themselves mired in a six-match losing streak after dropping both matches played last week. Hosting Show Low on Tuesday night, Holbrook lost in three straight matches. Show Low controlled game one 25-15, then took the second game 25-21. Any hopes of a Roadrunner comeback in game three ended quickly with the Cougars in full control of a 25-10 win.
On Saturday, Holbrook traveled just down I-40 for a neighborhood battle with Joseph City. The Wildcats who have also struggled this year stepped up against the larger school, taking care of business with a 3-1 win. All four games were close, but in the end, the Wildcats prevailed. Holbrook won the first game 25-22, but Joseph City won the next three and the match. Game four was seemingly in Holbrook’s control with the Birds leading 20-10, but the Wildcats came back, outscoring the Birds 15-2 winning the game and the match 25-22.
Holbrook, now 1-8. will look to right the ship this week with three matches scheduled. After traveling to St Johns on Tuesday, they will host a strong Snowflake team on Tuesday. Friday afternoon Chinle will come to town. Friday’s matches begin at 3 p.m. Next Tuesday, Holbrook will travel down to Whiteriver to face the Falcons.
