Holbrook’s boys soccer team battled Round Valley for 100 minutes on Wednesday night at Roadrunner stadium before the two teams finished the game in a 5-5 tie. The Roadrunners fell behind 5-2 before roaring back in the second half with three goals to tie the match. With the match knotted at 5-5, it went through both 10-minute extra sessions with neither team scoring again, thus leaving the two teams with the official tie.
The following night the Roadrunners weren’t as fortunate. Blue Ridge came into Roadrunner Stadium with a 1-3 record, but they were able to shut out a short-handed Holbrook squad which dropped to 1-5-1 with the 8-0 mercy rule loss.
This week Holbrook will be in St. Johns on Tuesday, then travel to Snowflake on Wednesday. With no matches scheduled for the following week, they will next be in action on Oct. 16, with a match at Winslow.
The Lady Roadrunners dropped both matches played last week, but they did score their first goal of the season. Chino Valley came to town on Monday and cruised to an 8-0 win over winless Holbrook. The following night Round Valley defeated the Lady Birds 9-1. That one goal came off the foot of Maya Francisco who placed her penalty kick just over the hands of the Elks goalie.
With the two losses, Holbrook fell to 0-4 on the season. The team will play at Snowflake on Wednesday, then will compete in the Chino Valley Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Next week they will travel to St. Johns on Monday, then welcome in Northland Prep on Tuesday. They wrap up a busy week with a trip to Blue Ridge on Thursday.
