Cross Country 2

Needing to fill in a large gap between their own invitational meet held last Friday and the sectional meet coming up on Thursday this week, Holbrook’s cross country teams ran in the 2A north regional meet held on Saturday at Hopi High School.

Holbrook’s boys team easily won the event, which had only 39 runners complete the 3.1-mile course. The Roadrunners finished with 17 total points to win the team competition. Pinon was second with 54, Valley Sanders third with 82, and Many Farms finished fourth with 92 points.

Holbrook and the rest of the field were paced by Leyton Tom whose time of 18:00 was 17 seconds ahead of second place Shereef Mckinney from Hopi. Holbrook’s Kenneth Nez was third in 18:20; Kelton Reidhead, fifth in 18:52; Darius Wiles, sixth in 18:56; and Ian Masayesva finished ninth with a time of 19:12.

Those Roadrunners who finished outside the team scoring were Tristen Attakai at 11th; Loren David, 16th; Myles Williams, 21st; and Williams Nez placed 31st.

Only two Lady Roadrunners competed in the varsity girls race. Raelle Yazzie placed fourth overall, with a time of 24:27; and Sara Billy was close behind in fifth place, crossing the line in 24:34.

Holbrook’s varsity runners will next run in the sectional meet hosted by Holbrook at Hidden Cove Golf Course on Thursday with the first race beginning at 1 p.m.
