Saxton Projects, a non-profit organization owned by Mark Saxon Jr. and his father Mark Saxton Sr., has teamed up with new Holbrook business Cannabrook University to host the 2021 Cuffs vs Hoses Softball charity event. The day begins at 12 noon on Saturday, June 12, at Hunt Park, with professional athletes Jamir Miller with the Arizona Cardinals, Jabari Brown with the Los Angeles Lakers and Lenny Jones with the San Francisco 49ers taking part in the event. To register the kids for football and basketball go to saxtonprojects.com. There is no cost to participate in the football and basketball games. The main event is the softball game where the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department will play against the Holbrook Police Department for the trophy. Other activities during the day include a basketball hoop shoot where the kids will compete to have a chance to play one-on-one with Brown, a dunk contest where all athletes will be the judges, and a flag football tournament with both Jones and Miller. There will also be carnival-style games, a water fight area with a water friendly bounce house and two regular bounce houses, as well as a Homerun Derby. The cost for events including the water and bounce house, dunk tank, dart balloons, ring toss, basketball shot, can toss and football accuracy throw range from $1 to $5 depending on age and/or the number of tries. The event will close that evening with a fireworks show. There will be food and concessions all day. All children must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must be respectful, no foul language will be permitted and participation is at each individual’s own risk. Lots of volunteers will be needed for this event and those who would like to can register on the website as well. There will also be three raffles. One will be a Cannabrook raffle of an 82” television, with all proceeds to go to the Holbrook Police Department. Saxton Projects will have two raffles, a 50/50 raffle and a raffle for prizes with those proceeds and the event proceeds to go to the Holbrook Youth Basketball League and Holbrook Youth Football League.
