Staff presented the complete abstract of votes of the 2024 Primary Election to the Navajo County Board of Supervisors who approved the official canvass of results for the election, thanking the many partners who came together to make it possible. As required by state statute, each county must review and certify the canvass of election.

“I’m grateful for the dedication and many hours of careful work that have made this election possible,” shared Chairman Jason Whiting. “The community came together, and we are thankful for the volunteers, poll workers, and the close coordination with the Democrat and Republican party chairs. Their efforts to marshal volunteers to work alongside staff are simply invaluable.”

Elections in Navajo County are comprised of main two parts: voter registration along with early voting which is administered by the Recorders Office; and election day, tabulation, and auditing which is administered by the Elections Department. Staff from both the Recorders Office and Elections Department work significant hours leading up to an election and the 2024 Primary was no exception.

On Election Day alone, Elections Department staff worked 22 hours straight. These efforts are also supported by Navajo County Sheriff David Clouse who provided a law enforcement presence on Election Day and assigned deputies to pick up and deliver ballots from the various voting centers across the county.

After the election, county staff and nine volunteers each from the Republican party and from the Democrat party came together to conduct a hand count audit of a random sampling of the ballots. The audit showed 100% accuracy after verifying and reconciliation of the machine count with the hand count.
