The Navajo County Board of Supervisors was given a summary of the county’s fiscal year 2021 federal single audit report by the Arizona Auditor General’s office last week.
In the report, auditor Lindsey Perry explained that the auditor general is a legislative agency made up of non-partisan staff that reports directly to the joint legislative audit committee. “We are an independent source of impartial information concerning state and local entities and programs.”
She continued by informing the board that Navajo County was found to be reliable in their audit. “In the county financial report, which presents the county’s annual report and our opinion as to whether the statement is presented fairly. It’s wonderful to report that for fiscal year 2021, we reported an unmodified, or what we call a clean opinion. This means the county statements are reliable.”
However, according to Perry, the county did show findings that needed attention by internal process. Those were addressed by developing and implementing policies and procedures that ensure statements are prepared accurately, on time and in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices. Perry explained the county resolved these issues by making necessary adjustments.
