Michael John Maria Breeze
Michael John Maria “Nick” Breeze, 86, of Winslow passed away Nov. 18, 2019, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, at Greer’s Mortuary. Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed with Holy Roman Mass at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Madre De Dios Church in Winslow. Fr. Peter Short of the Winslow Catholic community will officiate.
Nick was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on June 14, 1933, and was raised in the Bronx. He joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War. While stationed at Ramstein AFB, Germany, he met the love of his life, Masedonia Nora Ramirez. Nick and Nora were married for 65 years.
Nick moved to Winslow in 1955 working many jobs including at the Duke City Sawmill, City of Winslow Water Department, Peter Nell Furniture Store, Winslow Bakery and spending the final 37 years of his career working for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Nick epitomized a strong work ethic and street smarts. Although, or perhaps because he only attained his GED, he valued the importance of a good education as evidenced by ensuring his children were well educated.
In retirement he founded the 11-B Ranch and took care of the love of his life, Nora. He was an avid swimmer and loved his time at the ranch. As many will attest, he was an amazing storyteller; painting a picture full of colorful characters, most of all, himself. In the end, the most important parts of his life were his faith, family and sharing his faith with others. Nick never met a stranger and will be deeply missed by countless friends and family. He truly was one of kind.
Nick is survived by his wife, Nora; children, Michael, Cynthia Bernacki, Joseph (Dani), John (Debbie), Diana, Thomas (Felicia) and Theresa (Benjamin Del Mar); many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Nick is preceded in death by his mother, Catherine; sisters, Marianne and Trudy (“Go-Go”); daughter, Catherine; son, Ronald; and grandsons, Gabriel Del Mar and John Paul.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow handled the arrangements.
