Maurice R. Witmer, 70, loving father, grandfather, son, brother and beloved ex-husband, of Massillon, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 7, 2014, after a lengthy illness. The family has chosen to hold a private memorial in his honor.
Born on April 3, 1944, to the late Maurice and Blanche Witmer, “Bud,” as his family and friends called him, graduated from Massillon Washington High School and graduated with honors from Ohio Northern University.
Bud was a very successful pharmacist for over 30 years. He was a longtime resident of Winslow, and eventually owned and ran Winslow Drug Co. He also helped build and was co-partner with Allied Medical Supply, and soon thereafter became a pharmacist for the Arizona State Prison Complex before finally moving back to Ohio to care for his elderly mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
He thoroughly enjoyed gardening, political discussion and spending every major holiday with his children. He was a truly, caring and sensitive soul to those who knew him best. He was also a wonderful violinist in his youth.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche, and father, Maurice.
Bud will be dearly and greatly missed by his ex-wife, Joann M. Witmer of Massillon; his son, Marc A. Witmer of Columbus, Ohio; his daughters, Veronica J. (Todd) Valentini of Louisville, Ohio, and Gina (Michael) Wolonsky of Hartville, Ohio; his brother, Donald (Alice) Witmer of Massillon; his grandson, Jordan of Hartville; and his nephew, Richard (Emily) Witmer of Massillon.
Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home Massillon Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
