On June 24, 2023, Mary Ann “Mary” Chavez was called home to our Lord and Savior at the age of 73. Mary Ann was born March 26, 1950, in Winslow, to Teresa and Rafael Jaramillo. Mary Ann attended Winslow High School and graduated with the class of 1969. Following high school, Mary Ann began waitressing in downtown Winslow at the Two Star Café where she worked for nearly two decades. She then worked at K-mart in the deli where she was best known for her mile-high subs and at St. Joseph Parish as a cook and housekeeper part-time. Lastly, she made her way to Denny’s where she was a server and restaurant manager. She loved her job and all the people she met throughout her careers. Mary Ann met her husband David L. Chavez Sr. at Two Stars Cafè and together, they went on to form a large, blended family. After some years she made it her goal to return to school and was so proud to earn her Associate Degree at NPC. She welcomed all into her life with open arms and had unwavering love and patience. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Mary Ann. She loved knitting/crocheting, crossword puzzles, telenovelas, listening to Freddy Fender, and talking with her loved ones. However, some of her greatest joys included the caretaking of her dog Guera, spending time with her grandchildren, making home-cooked meals for her family, and staying deeply rooted in her Catholic faith. She is survived by her husband, David L. Chavez Sr.; many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many more extended family. She is preceded in death by her great grandparents, Frank and Mary Villaescusa; parents Teresa and Rafael Jaramillo; and siblings Ernest, Marcelino, Robert, and Norine Jaramillo. Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., on Thursday, July 6, at Madre de Dios Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in Desert View Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Monday, July 3, at Greer’s Mortuary Chapel. Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow handled the arrangements.
