Snowflake wrapped up the regular football season on Friday night, with a home field 36-6 win over visiting Sierra Linda. That win pushed their regular season record to 7-3 and left them ranked 14th in the final 4A rankings.
As the 14th seed they will travel to face No. 3 seed Mica Mountain on Thursday to open the 4A state playoff bracket. The Thunderbolts posted a 9-1 regular season mark with their lone loss coming in week seven against Canyon del Oro.
Poston Butte is the only common opponent the Lobos and Mica Mountain have this season. The Lobos defeated the Broncs 37-26, and the Thunderbolts took care of them 34-28 in the initial week of the regular season.
Mica Mountain is venturing into the state playoffs for the first time as a 4A school, while the Lobos are the defending state runners-up in the 4A conference and the two-time 3A state champion in the past three years.
Snowflake easily has the playoff experience meter on their side. Mica Mountain has put together an impressive season, which garnered them the No. 3 overall seed. Playing on their home field will help. Snowflake will be looking for the upset and may well be capable of doing just that on Thursday night.
