The Lobos split two games played last week, getting a big non-region win over ALA Anthem South on Wednesday night then falling by four at Holbrook on Friday night.
Playing at Anthem against the upstart Titans, Snowflake had no problems flexing their east region muscle resulting in a 58-31 win over the new 2A school who has just one win on the season.
Friday night they faced Holbrook in a full Munoz Gym. Snowflake entered the game ranked 12th to face the 13th-ranked Roadrunners. Both teams are in a fight for the region title along with Winslow and Alchesay, as they come down to the final two games.
Snowflake started quickly, with Brock Ervien netting 6 in the first and Asher Brew adding 4 helping the Lobos hold a 16-8 lead through the first quarter. In the second, Holbrook flipped the tables. They outscored Snowflake 21-13 tying the game at 29-29 at the half.
Snowflake trailed by 2 after the third quarter and in the fourth, they battled to a 2-point game late. Aadem Coor hit two treys, keeping the game close but in the final minute, Holbrook pulled away to win the game 54-50.
Brock Ervien led the way in scoring, with 14. Asher Brewer added 12; Aaden Coor, 11; Landon Clare, 6; and Gionn Jones finished with 6.
This week Snowflake will host Show Low on Tuesday night then will finish the regular season at Blue Ridge on Wednesday. The Lobos will be in the 3A state tournament, which gets underway on Feb. 14. If they finish inside the top 16 in the final rankings, they will host a first-round game. Two wins this week should keep them inside the top 16 in the rankings. They more than likely will not qualify for the new Open Division Tournament.
The Lobos enter this week with an overall record of 14-9. They are 10-6 in regular season contests.
