The Lady Wildcats are headed to the 1A state playoffs as the number two overall seed in the 16-team bracket. As the two seed they were slated to host 15th-seeded Duncan on Tuesday. An expected a win in that matchup would advance them to round two where they would host either No. 7 St. Michael or No. 10 Mogollon on Friday night. If they can get past that game, they would move on to Findlay Toyota Center for a 1A state semi-final game next Friday the 17th.
Rock Point is the No. 1 overall seed. Forth Thomas is the four seed, and St. David joins Joseph City in rounding out the top four in the bracket.
Prior to playing in the Super Regional Tournament last week, the Ladies survived a scare from Williams in their final regular season game on Monday. They battled the Vikings in four close quarters before prevailing 53-49. April Neil led the way with 19 points, with Gabby Jesmer and Kate Edwards both adding 13 in the win.
Joseph City began the regional tourney with a 58-9 win over Phoenix Country Day School on Thursday. April Neil led with 12 points. Audrey Neil added 11.
Friday’s quarterfinal game was a 58-51 over rival Mogollon. Jesmer netted 13; April Neil, 12; and Kadence Armstrong finished with 10 points.
That win advanced the Lady Cats to the regional title game where they came up four points short losing to Fort Thomas 37-33.
Joseph City enters the state playoffs with an overall record of 25-7.
