Snowflake had their 12-game win streak snapped at home on Friday night, but prior to that, they won two games earlier in the week. Hosting Alchesay on Tuesday night the Lobos built a large lead against the Falcons through three quarters before giving up ground in the fourth, but they won the game 50-43.

Thursday night a trip to Safford resulted in a lopsided win for the Lobos. They crushed a struggling Bulldog team 60-16.

That long trip may have had an impact on Friday’s game with Holbrook. The Roadrunners came to town with an 0-2 region record, but they held Ryah Denhalter and Nicole Hipps scoreless in the first eight minutes leaving Ranell West to keep up the scoring which she did with six points helping the Lobos tie the game at 12-12 after one.

In the second each team scored eight points. Denhalter found the range twice keeping the game tied at 20-20 at the half. Holbrook outscored the Lobos by four in the third period and led 37-33 going into the fourth. In the final frame, the Lobos were unable to keep up with Holbrook’s long-range shooting as the Birds handed Snowflake their first home court loss and just their third overall loss of the year with a 53-44 final outcome.

Ranell West did her part leading the team with 16 points. Kenadi Stuart added 7, Ryah Denhalter finished with 6, Nicole Hipps added 4, Jayci Ballard 3, Tayli Hancock 2, and A. Yarn finished with 2 points.

With the loss the Lobos still have a very impressive record of 16-3. They are now 7-2 in regular-season contests. This week they play at Winslow on Tuesday, then travel to Alchesay on Friday. Saturday, they host an unbeaten Valley Christian team.
