The Winslow community Lego team, Junkyard Dawgs, took home the championship trophy from the Flagstaff First Lego League Qualifying Tournament held Dec. 5.
The team, consisting of seventh graders Lindsey Becenti, Jacob Coolidge, Trinity Cox, Kendall Havlicek and Shaunoa McKenzie, competed against 29 teams for the win and also earned first place in the robotics competition. The team is coached by Kevin Coolidge and Steve Brodt, who was awarded the Coach’s Award at the event.
The team has competed together for the past four years and with this accomplishment will move on to the First Lego League state competition, scheduled on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Arizona State University in Tempe.
