Navajo County

Navajo County Superior Court Judge Ralph Hatch has dismissed the case involving a former Snowflake High School student charged with aggravated assault after teens were injured at a gathering on Nov. 11 of last year. Joey Fish, 18, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault by a grand jury after an incident where he and fellow student Ethan Taylor who was 18 at the time, threw a 100-pound rock from a cliff towards a group of teens standing around a campfire down below at Five-Mile Draw near Snowflake. Several of the teens were injured by shards of rock as the boulder broke apart. Hatch dismissed the case after four days, stating that the state did not have sufficient evidence to convict Fish of aggravated assault. The dismissal bars any retrial. Taylor took a plea agreement for his part in the incident of three months behind bars and five years probation. Fish still faces charges of two counts of kidnapping and sexual assault related to an alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old student in a Snowflake High School locker room on Nov. 20 of last year. That trial date has not yet been set for that incident.
